Tour de Ed The second annual Tour de Ed is on it's way. But before I tell you about the ride, I want to stop and thank EVERYONE that has helped or showed support, or asked what they can do to help Ed. I shouldn't be amazed at how much support Ed has received from the community, but nevertheless, I'm amazed. Thank you everyone for your help. Okay, you came here to learn about the ride. The ride is the old Almond Blossom ride and takes you on a pleasant 20 or so mile ride on quiet country roads through the almond orchards when the trees are in full bloom. The ride starts at the Chico City Hall Parking Lot (on 5th Street between Main and Wall St.) and we'll have a police escort out of town to those quiet country roads I was talking about. It's an awesome sight to see an endless stretch of cyclists all the way down 5th St from Downtown nearly to Hwy 32. Thank you Chico Police Department for your work pulling off that small miracle. Registration opens the morning of the ride at 8AM with the ride starting at 10AM sharp. Helmets are required for safety, so if you want to pick up a helmet, or get that flat tire repaired so you can join the ride, there are several established bike shops within easy walking distance from the Chico City Hall. The ride heads west out of Chico, then south through the orchards to Durham, where we'll have a rest stop stocked with all the goodies Chico Velo is famous for. You know our motto -- "You can go for time or you can go for weight." After Durham, the ride turns north on Jones Ave. where it connects with the Midway Bike Path and back to town. For those not wanting to tackle 20 miles, or if you want to bring your small cyclists with you, we'll also have a 6 mile loop in Lower Bidwell Park you can do with the kids. The ride is about supporting Ed and raising funds for injured cyclists throughout Butte County. But it's also about doing what Ed would do, which is riding his bike. ALL proceeds for the ride goes to the Chico Cyclist Care Fund to help cyclists with their recovery. To make sure even more money goes to the fund, we're looking for sponsors to help us cover the expenses of the ride -- everything from signage to wrist bracelets to food for the rest stop. If you would like to help, please call the Velo office at 343-8356 and ask for Sandy. It's that simple. Thank you for entering the ride, to show your support for Ed.
